Perspective Students

Piano Auditions

The School of Music offers both Group (MUS) and Individual (MUSI) piano instruction. Students who wish to study through the School must perform an audition before the keyboard faculty. Please prepare two contrasting works, one of which demonstrates technical proficiency. These pieces may be performed either from memory or from score. You may also be asked to sightread and/or to harmonize a melodic line.

At the time of the audition, you will be a given a course number for registration purposes. Spaces for individual study are allotted with piano performance majors being given top priority, then music majors and minors, and finally students from other disciplines. In the past we have been able to place a large number of non-majors, but it varies year by year.

STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO Individual Studies (MUSI):
On the first day of classes, please check the door of Room 158 for your name, which will be coupled with that of your teacher. Please contact your teacher directly for a lesson time. Questions should be directed to Dr. Paula Fan at fanp@u.arizona.edu.
