Media Arts Courses in a Thematic Minor

In order to take Media Arts courses as part of a Thematic minor, UA students have three options:

  1. Apply to the Media Arts minor (which requires a minimum cumulative UA GPA of 2.5). Students accepted to the Media Arts minor may opt to instead take courses toward a Thematic minor. To exercise this option, accepted students must make an appointment with Dr. Barbara Selznick to discuss their Media Arts course selection for the Thematic minor. Appointments are made by calling (520) 621-7352. Please note that not all Media Arts courses are available to students in a Thematic minor.

  2. Regardless of GPA, any UA student may enroll in any available Media Arts course(s) in the Summer Sessions. During Summer, lower-division (100/200 level) courses are available via WebReg. Upper-division (300/400 level) courses in Summer are also available via WebReg, but students must first request provisional advanced standing for the summer by contacting Ms. Enedina Cervantes at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

  3. Several Media Arts courses are cross-listed and offered through other departments. Students may be able to enroll in these courses through Student Link, regardless of GPA or declared major/minor:

    ART/MAR 241 - Beginning B&W Darkroom Photography
    ART/MAR 244 - Beginning Digital Photography
    CHN/MAR 251 - New Chinese Cinema
    MUS/MAR 302 - Recording Studio Production
    GER/MAR 325 - History of German Cinema
ENGL/MAR 400 - Themes in Literature and Film

MAR 102 (renumbered to MAR 252 beginning in Spring 2008) is a Tier 2 Arts course available to all UA students (if seats are available).
