A) All Students are financially responsible for the equipment issued. It is the responsibility of the student to report to one of the Coordinators any equipment that is lost, damaged, or stolen.
B) Students are responsible for testing all equipment before leaving the lab with the equipment. This is a PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE and represents your only assurance that the equipment is in proper operating condition before arriving on location. FILM SHOOT assignments require TEST ROLLS as a graded percentage of your project.
Since the University of Arizona, Department of Media Arts has no liability implied or otherwise for the quality of your shoot, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you comply with this step of your production process. Upon return of the equipment, the LAB Supervisor will CHECK ALL EQUIPMENT for its general operating condition before the student is dismissed from this process. It is in your best interest to understand that this entire process is quite thorough and that both CHECK-In and CHECK-Out procedures may take time to complete. This is common in all professional production houses and is a manifestation of how production facilities maintain their equipment and clients are held accountable for damages. Understanding and budgeting your time to accommodate this critical process will make for a more professional and pleasant exchange. MARPL Employees are empowered to access STRIKES and EQUIPMENT Replacement slips for equipment that fails to pass the Check-in process.
C) RESERVATIONS for equipment are allowed one week in advance. Senior shoots may reserve equipment before the one week period with arrangements made in advance between the Instructor and the Coordinator. PHONE RESERVATIONS are not permitted. PHONE CANCELLATIONS are encouraged to be made 24 hr. in advance to allow for the re-scheduling of equipment to others. Students 15 minutes LATE for a reservation will be considered a NO-SHOW.
D) All Equipment is due back to MARPL by 11 AM the day following check-out, unless prior, written permission have been made by the instructor, student, and coordinator are presented at the time of the reservation. (signatures on EXTENDED PRIVILEGES FORM)
E) There is NO EATING or DRINKING within the EDIT SUITES, CLASSROOM, or STUDIO C Complex. Penalty is immediate loss of edit time and/or one STRIKE on your record. Use Drink Shelves or go outside.
F) Access to STUDIO C can be gained through scheduling in writing at least ONE week in ADVANCE with the MARPL Coordinator, who will assign a STUDENT SUPERVISOR to monitor on-site use of the studio. Instructors must pre-schedule groups within classes before consulting with the MARPL COORDINATOR. THERE IS NO UNSUPERVISED USE OF STUDIO C.
G) VIOLATIONS of any of the RULES above: Late Check-In, NO-SHOWS, eating/drinking within edit suites or classrooms (including STUDIO C), re-wiring systems (only MARPL Employees are authorized to re-wire) as well as inappropriate behavior towards employees of MARPL will result in STRIKES (2 STRIKES your instructor is notified, and 3 STRIKES your check-out Privileges will be suspended and a one letter grade drop assessed to your class. Also, all students are bound by the University of Arizona Student Code of Conduct and subject to all disciplinary terms in that agreement.
