Modern/Contemporary
Experiential studio classes are offered in three levels of modern and contemporary techniques and aesthetics. The full-time faculty (and guest artists) have extensive, and personal references to traditional vocabularies such as Humphrey, Weidman, Graham, Limon, Horton, Cunningham, and Lewitzky, as well as contemporary methodologies. Students are given a diverse exposure to the past and present styles of movement. Particular focus is designed to increase stamina, maintain body awareness, and stimulate imagination. Students are expected to embrace and become fluent, in a broad range of material in order to find their own voice and versatility. No one method of moving is considered more valuable than another. A strong technical foundation is incorporated with a conscientious application to skillful performance.
The UA School of Dance has a uniquely designed curriculum that is dedicated to the full integration of ballet, modern, and jazz.
