Visiting Artists and Scholars Series

The School of Art focuses on bringing diverse artists and scholars from around the world to our campus. These artists and scholars bring their own unique influences to the program by engaging with community members, students, and faculty through salons, lectures, and exhibitions. Students and faculty may also participate in discussion groups, workshops, and residency projects.

Open House

The Open House is an evening event, with catered food and drink, for the Friends and Supporters of the School of Art. It is an opportunity for members of our community to gather, create, and learn about the arts. Participants can sign up for workshops, attend demonstrations, and hear short lectures.

The workshops and demonstrations are typically an hour long and are designed to give guests the opportunity to experience the process of making art in a guided studio environment. Lectures are given by our Art History and Art Education professors and graduate students.

Art Education Internships

Associates Of Art History

Providing cultural enrichment to the Tucson community and educational enrichment to the Art History program, the Associates of Art History sponsor a series of lectures, an annual fellowship ($2,000) for an incoming art history graduate student, support the Art History Graduate Symposium, and award small grants to graduates for travel to conferences. Members of the Associates of Art History enjoy two gala celebrations each year, as well as receiving a schedule of the lecture series, related cultural events, and other art-historically interesting lectures. Funding is based on membership fees, donations, and fund-raising efforts.

Graphic Design Workshop

The graphic design and illustration workshop classes create quality design solutions for various non-profit organizations, programs, and small businesses within the university and local community. The goal of this project is two-fold. The first gives the students the opportunity to solve "real world" problems in a classroom situation. The second offers the "client" quality design and illustration solutions at low cost. The businesses selected must work into the class curriculum and be either new businesses that cannot afford a professional designer or illustrator, university associated programs or not-for-profit organizations that help the community. The "client" is asked to donate to The University of Arizona Foundation Graphic Design Workshop fund. These funds are used to purchase equipment and to pay for lecture fees, benefiting all of the Visual Communication students.
